Lib Dems secure vital funds for new council homes
Liberal Democrat-led Sutton Council has secured additional funding from central government to add up to 57 much-needed new council homes.
This funding comes at a crucial time, as housing pressures continue to mount across the country. In Sutton alone, there are over 1,000 households currently living in temporary or emergency accommodation.
Sutton Council already plans to build hundreds of new homes in the borough, and its strategic use of central government funding will allow these new homes to be delivered for local families in need, without adding financial impact on local taxpayers.
Cllr Barry Lewis, Leader of Sutton Council, commented, "We're committed to helping those who need social housing to stay in our borough – which is why this funding is so key. This ensures that we can continue to tackle the housing crisis head-on."
This new investment will play a crucial role in improving the quality of life for many residents, offering them the stability and security they deserve.
The council will continue to engage with residents as the project progresses, with further updates on the allocation process and construction timeline expected in the coming months.
