A&E Department despite 5hr waiting times
Following reports of five-hour wait times at A&E at St Helier Hospital, Lib Dem Parliamentary candidate for Carshalton and Wallington, Bobby Dean has slammed the Conservative Government’s plans to cut its A&E department.
The report in the Metro detailed how long covid is contributing to the backlog in treating patients at the local hospital, exacerbating A&E waiting times that are already at record-breakingly bad lengths.
The news comes as the Conservative Government is set to push on with its plan to downgrade St Helier Hospital to make way for a new facility many miles away on the border of Surrey.
Bobby Dean, running to be Lib Dem MP for Carshalton & Wallington, said:
“This latest report shows that waiting times at St Helier Hospital’s A&E are getting even worse. Yet the Conservatives are still pushing ahead with their plan to cut the A&E department from the site altogether.
“Local people don't want these services to be reorganised and moved away from St Helier. They want the investment we need to keep these vital services at our local hospital.”
