Luke Taylor MP’s plan for Sutton, Cheam & Worcester Park

These are my priorities as our MP

I am fighting every day for a fair deal for our community

FIX THE NHS

The NHS has been vital in my life and that of my family. That's why I am fighting to:

  1. Recruit 8,000 more GPs nationwide and guarantee patients an appointment within 24 hours for urgent matters and within seven days for routine issues.
  2. I will hold the Conservatives accountable for their unfulfilled promise of a new hospital in Sutton. I will continue to advocate for improvements and repairs to St Helier.
  3. I will fight for free personal care based on the model introduced by the Liberal Democrats in government in Scotland in 2002, so that provision is based on need, not ability to pay.
  4. Give carers a £2 an hour pay rise.

HELP WITH THE COST OF LIVING:

Since Liz Truss and the Tories crashed our economy, families have felt the squeeze like never before. That's why we need action now to help people out of these tough times:

  1. We are determined to fight and deliver a cut in energy bills, funded by a proper windfall tax on the energy industry's excessive profits, to ease the burden on families.
  2.  I will challenge the big supermarkets' profiteering during this crisis and ensure that they deliver fair food pricing.
  3. Campaign to help families in poverty by abolishing the two-child benefit cap and ending the bedroom tax paid for by reversing the Tory's tax cuts for the big banks.

PROTECTING OUR GREEN SPACE.

Sutton, Cheam and Worcester Park are beautiful parts of London, so I choose to live here and serve as a councillor. The Conservatives have put this at risk with their disregard for the environment. As your MP, I would:

  1. Stop sewage dumping in the Rivers and ban bonuses for water bosses.
  2. Insulate more homes, including free retrofits for low-income families.
  3. Invest significantly in renewable power so that 80% of the UK’s electricity is generated from renewables by 2030.
  4. Plant 100 of new trees across Sutton a year
  5. My personal commitment is to safeguard our green parks and advocate for development to be focused on brown field sites or abandoned industrial land in the Green belt.

DELIVER A FAIR DEAL ON HOUSING:

Too often, I hear of how hard it is to get that first home or even to afford the skyrocketing rent and service charges that hold you back. That’s why I will:

  1. My approach is collaborating with our outstanding Lib Dem-run council and the private sector to build new affordable homes in Sutton. Together, we can deliver more affordable private homes for rent and purchase.
  2.  I will lobby the next government to deliver the money and support the Lib Dem council needs to provide hundreds more social homes for Sutton.
  3.  I will champion abolishing leaseholds and replacing them with a common-hold system that puts tenants in charge of their buildings.
  4. Liberal democrats and I will champion abolishing no-fault evictions and fight for tenants to have the right to long-term tenancy.

INVEST IN OUR FUTURE

As the parent of two children and the son of a schoolteacher, I know how important it is to give every child the best possible start in life. That’s why my plan will deliver:

  1. Increase school funding per pupil above the inflation rate every year.
  2. Affordable childcare available to all with properly funded placements.
  3. Put a qualified mental health professional in every school, ensuring every child has someone they can turn to for help.

TACKLE CRIME

Crime is an attack on your freedom and right to security; that’s why as your MP, I will keep Sutton the safest places to live in London by:

  1.  Restore proper community policing, where officers are visible, trusted and focused on preventing and solving crimes.
  2. Make sure all burglaries are attended by the police and properly investigated.
  3.  Invest in the criminal justice system to tackle the backlog of court cases.

FIGHT FOR GLOBAL JUSTICE

Britain can only be secure and safe if we make the world safer and better. That is why I will:

  1. Continue to call for an immediate ceasefire in Gaza and work towards a two-state solution
  2. Reverse cuts to the Army and ensure we meet our NATO commitments and obligations to Ukraine
  3.  Reinstate the 0.7% target for International Development and bring back DFID as its department
