Bobby Dean: Shining a light on mental health and kinship care

7 Jun 2023

I was honoured to welcome Munira Wilson MP, the Lib Dem Spokesperson for Education and Young People, to Carshalton recently.

We started by visiting Carshalton Boys Sports College to find out more about their mental health support programme.

Specialists spot issues with pupils early and offer them support that stops problems from spiralling and needing more complex help in the future

They're setting a brilliant example to schools up and down the UK.

Later in the day, we hosted a roundtable in Carshalton High Street with local kinship carers.

Kinship care is when family or close friends take on children that are not their own.

I was in the care of my grandparents as a young teenager, so this is an issue I care about deeply.

The carers were able to join me in sharing our first-hand experiences with Munira – she’ll be using what she learned to fight for kinship carers' rights in Parliament.
