Raw sewage dumped in the Wandle

21 Jun 2023

Stats uncovered by the Lib Dems show that raw sewage was dumped into the River Wandle a staggering 25 times since 2021.

The sewage discharges by Thames Water lasted nearly 124 hours.

The Conservative Government allows water companies to pump raw sewage into rivers, lakes and coastlines  –  with Carshalton & Wallington’s Tory MP voting in Parliament to let it continue.

Lib Dem MP candidate for Carshalton & Wallington, Bobby Dean said:

“I live right by the Wandle. I walk my dog by it every day – just like so many local people do.

“It is a complete disgrace that the Conservatives are letting this much-loved part of our area get polluted with raw sewage.

“The Wandle is one of the few chalk streams in the world – it needs to be protected.

“Please back our campaign to stop the dumping, clean up our rivers and fix the sewage system by signing our petition.”
