Local Councillors help stranded residents
Elderly residents of eight-storey Hendfield Court in Beddington Gardens were left effectively housebound when the building’s lift broke in December.
In response to concerns, Wallington South Councillors Muhammad and Jayne carried out door-to-door housecalls in the block.
They provided contact details of social services where needed and in one instance intervened to delay the transfer of a resident needing round-the-clock care.
Lib Dem Councillor Jayne McCoy said:
“We are pleased that in part due to our pressure, the lift is now back in action.
“It was heartening to be part of such a strong community reaction to an emergency.”
