Lib Dems fight to improve people’s homes
Shocking: Tory and Labour Councillors vote against investment to prevent damp and mould in homes!
40 homes in Thicket Crescent were due to receive significant investment as part of a retro-fit programme which would have raised the energy efficiency of homes from EPC-G, to the gold standard EPC-A.
Using grants secured from European funding and Council investment, Sutton Central's Lib Dem Councillors Ed Parsley, Cryss Mennaceur and David Bartolucci were keen for the Council to deliver ‘EnergieSprong’ efficient homes to social tenants and leaseholders.
None of the residents would have had to pay for these energy efficiency works which would have run alongside a major works programme planned for fire safety, roof repairs, window replacements and communal spaces.
This would have led to a huge improvement to the lives of local residents.
Sadly Conservative and Labour Councillors voted against it.
Cllr Cryss Mennaceur said: “I am astounded that the Tories and Labour would have such little regard for our residents.
“As Lib Dem Councillors, we worked hard to secure external funding to improve these homes.
“We all know how terrible it is to have damp and mould in your home.
“It’s clear only the Lib Dems in Sutton are serious about improving housing standards.”
