Lib Dem-run Sutton Council launches ULEZ petition to send the Mayor a message
Lib Dem-run Sutton Council has launched a petition against the unfair ULEZ rollout, after local concerns about the speed of the rollout, the lack of support, and absence of public transport investment have gone ignored by the Mayor of London.
The petition comes after the Lib Dems organised a special council meeting to discuss the ULEZ expansion where more than 30 members of the public took up the invitation to express their views.
Bobby Dean, Lib Dem Parliamentary Spokesperson for Carshalton & Wallington, said:
"The Liberal Democrats want to see action on pollution, but any proposal has to be fair and not hit those struggling the hardest.
"I hear from local people everyday who are really worried about ULEZ expansion and the impact it is going to have on their lives.
"I encourage everyone who is concerned about this expansion to sign the petition. By speaking with one voice, the Mayor will have no choice but to sit up and take notice."
Cllr Ruth Dombey, Lib Dem Leader of Sutton Council added:
"Sutton Liberal Democrats have been telling the Mayor of London for over a year that ULEZ just doesn't work for our borough.
"We all want cleaner air -- but not at the price of children’s hunger and not by closing down businesses and losing jobs.
"The Mayor needs to start listening. If he won’t come to us, then we will go to him. But we won’t go empty handed – we’ll be taking with us the voice of the London Borough of Sutton."
