BREAKING POINT: Shocking stats uncovered by the Lib Dems reveal the crisis facing our NHS
New figures have revealed the extent of the NHS crisis in Sutton and Cheam.
At St Helier Hospital, 574 people waited over 12 hours to be seen in December, while patients waited an average of 1 hour 23 minutes for an ambulance.
Local surgeries have been hit too, with 101,914 people waiting over two weeks to see their GP. The NHS crisis comes after a decade of mismanagement and under-funding by the Conservative Government.
There are now serious concerns about the Conservative plan to cut St Helier’s A&E department.
Cllr Ruth Dombey, Lib Dem Leader of Sutton Council said:
“I have experienced the crisis in our NHS first hand.
"Over Christmas I fell seriously ill and had to wait five and a half hours for an ambulance, then another 17 hours for a hospital bed.
“It is clear that after a decade of neglect by the Conservatives, our NHS is on its knees and now they are taking local services away when we need them most.
“It’s not good enough. Lib Dems will continue to fight for our NHS and the investment it needs.”
