Bobby attends local events to mark World Mental Health Day
Lib Dem Parliamentary Candidate for Carshalton and Wallington, Bobby Dean has attended a series of local and regional events to mark World Mental Health Day.
Bobby is Sutton Council’s Mental Health Champion and attended the events on behalf of the borough.
A week before the awareness day, Bobby joined local group, The Proper Blokes Club, for a walk around Beddington Park. The community-driven initiative provides a safe space for men to talk, share or simply walk together - helping to tackle the stigma associated with managing your mental health.
On the morning of World Mental Health Day, Bobby visited the Sutton Mental Health Foundation and joined in a therapeutic drumming session hosted by the Gary Mason charity.
Finally, Bobby attended the South London Citizens accountability event in central London. He made a short speech to attendees and accepted a reward on behalf of the Borough for its continuing commitment to work with the local community on tackling mental health issues.
Councillor Bobby Dean, running to be MP for Carshalton & Wallington, said:
“It was fantastic to see what local community groups and charities are doing to support people with their mental health in our borough.
“Despite their best efforts, it is clear that the Government simply isn’t investing enough in core services. Local charities are having to step in and deal with situations that could have been prevented with the right support. We have to do better.
“It was an honour to receive acknowledgement from South London Citizens for Lib Dem-run Sutton Council’s efforts on tackling mental health alongside the community. We now pledge to keep that work going and to improve each an every year.”
