2,000 residents tell the Mayor: Don’t cut the 213 bus!
Over 2,000 local residents have signed a Sutton Liberal Democrat petition calling on the Mayor of London to stop his cuts to the 213 bus route.
The Mayor’s plan would see 26 buses a day slashed from the popular route.
When the Mayor came to power he promised to expand bus routes in outer London, but he is doing the exact opposite here in Sutton.
Lib Dems have urged the Mayor to make his mind up, asking: “Is he going to invest in Sutton like he promised or will he slash our bus services?”
Campaigners posed the question to the Mayor with a bus-shaped cake baked by a Worcester Park resident who relies on the 213 bus.
Cllr Barry Lewis, Transport Spokesperson for Sutton Lib Dems, said:
"You can’t have your cake and eat it. The Mayor of London needs to decide if he’s going to keep his promise and invest in Sutton’s public transport links, or turn his back on our borough by slashing one of our most well-used bus routes.
"The 213 is a lifeline for thousands of local people who rely on it to get around the area and to and from Kingston.
"We will be presenting our petition to the Mayor in due course – in the meantime, we urge local people to add their names."
