Qasim, Louise and Christopher
Cllr Qasim Esak, Cllr Louise Phelan and Cllr Christopher Woolmer are your Liberal Democrat Councillors in Sutton West & East Cheam. They were first elected in 2022 and 2026 respectively.
They have a proven track record of delivering for the local community. They have already been part of the hard work the local Lib Dem council and Luke Taylor MP have been doing to secure new investment in our high streets, keep our borough one of the safest places to live in the country and make sure that help is available to families struggling with the cost of living crisis.
Unlike the other parties, Qasim, Louise and Christopher are regularly out and about in our community, knocking on doors and fixing local issues.
Together, they will fight for our area's future, making sure that nobody is left behind and that local residents and groups are involved in decision making about the issues that matter most to them.
They are on hand to tackle any concerns you might have about issues the local council is responsible for in your local area.
Qasim is Sutton born and raised, and has been a councillor here since 2022. In that time he has helped secure temporary accommodation for those facing homelessness, worked with local police to help them through their modernisation, and secured backing from the Council on a number of measures to boost access to GPs.
He cares deeply about the community he calls home - which is why he volunteered at a local foodbank at the height of the pandemic and has been a governor at two local schools. His family has a long history in Sutton, having opened the first south Asian restaurant in our borough in the 1960s - which is why Qasim has stood up in council meetings for our borough’s diversity and strength against those who seek to divide us.
Louise is a real community champion who knows the challenges facing businesses and community groups. She managed retail shops and pubs across Sutton for years, ran a local library at weekends and chaired the Sutton New Town Community Festival.
As a single parent, she knows firsthand how important it is to get support to those who need it during this cost of living crisis - and has worked tirelessly to bring community groups and local charities together to help identify those who need help.
Christopher is passionate about improving daily life for local people - and in his role of looking after our environment and transport for the Council he has delivered road and station safety improvements, tackled pollution head on and made sure we invest in a greener, cleaner future for our children.
In his spare time he teaches piano to local students and regularly plays the piano and organ at the Royal Albert Hall and Royal Festival Hall. He is passionate about the impact of music on enriching young peoples’ formative years.
